American Horror Story: Freak Show Tarot Spread

American Horror Story for those who do not know is an American horror anthology series. Each season tells a unique storyline, set in different time periods and settings. Many cast members are recast with different roles. The fourth season “Freak Show”,  is set in 1952 Jupiter, Florida, telling the story of one of the last remaining freak shows in America, and their struggle for survival.

This spread is based on the characters in the show. This spread is a reflective spread meant for you to explore different aspects of yourself, to find your “inner freak” so to say.

Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) – The character dreams of fame and stardom, and appears to be envious of anyone who can outshine her. She lives life as if she was an actual star. Elsa has no legs from the knees down.

Bette and Dot Tattler (Sarah Paulson) – With the magic of CGI one actress plays the role of a conjoined twin. Bette is naive and a dreamer. Bette kills her mother in a fit of rage. She is easy to manipulate. Dot is tough and skeptical, but has a knack for singing.

Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters) – Inflicted with ectrodactyly (joined fingers) he is nicked named “lobster boy”. He is handsome and charming and believes that the “monsters” of the freak show are just like everyone else. It seems he wants to be accepted and be a part of society. He is strong willed and rebellious.

Ethel Darling (Kathy Bates) – Mother of Jimmy. She is the bearded lady. What I see from her is a desire to keep the status quo. To protect her son. She does not think society will accept the “freaks” and tells her son to accept things as they are.

Dell Toledo (Michael Chiklis) – Father of Jimmy (but Kimmy does not know, yet) and ex-husband to Ethel. He tried to kill Jimmy as a baby to “save” him from the hardship of his deformity. Dell is the “strong man”. He is quick to temper.

Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett) – is a hermaphroditic woman with three breasts. She is Dell’s new wife. Being a hermaphrodite, she embodies the masculine and feminine.

Gloria Mott (Frances Conroy) – “non freak”, Gloria is a wealthy woman whose son Dandy wishes to join Elsa’s freak show. She is a women in denial, refusing to be associated with anything that doesn’t live up to her standard of living. Her denial extends to her son as well. Her baby boy would never hurt a fly, he’s just simply bored.

Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock) – He is one sick son of a bitch. The real freak in my opinion. He cannot be satisfied with normal entertainment, he is extremely “damaged”.

Twistey the Clown – (John Carroll Lynch) – If you are  not afraid of clowns, you will be now. Twistey is a silent clown killer. Not much is not yet about his background. So it is hard to get a psychological view of him, other than psychotic killer.

Getting to know thy freaky nature.
